Probability of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRS) virus infection as a function of exposure route and dose.
Veterinary Microbiology, 2005, Volume 110, N°1-2, 7-16
The oral and intranasal exposure routes were investigated for PRRSV so as to obtain dose-response curves. The doses of PRRSV used in this study ranged from 102.2 to 107.2 TDCI50 and the infection status following exposure of each animal was determined in base of virus isolation and ELISA for PRRSV-specific antibodies. In control pigs, infection was achieved inoculating them 102.2 TDCI50 of PRRSV intramuscularly. The infectious dose50 for oral and intranasal routes were 105.3 TDCI50 and 104.0 TDCI50 respectively suggesting an increased susceptibility to PRRSV infection by the parenteral route.
