Influence of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2)-infection on efficacy and safety of a modified live porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome (PRRSV) vaccine.

This study aimed at investigating the influence of porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) infection on the efficacy of the vaccine against the porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). Seventy 2-week-old SPF pigs were randomly distributed into 7 groups. The pigs were inoculated the following viruses as follows:

Antibodies to PRRSV and PCV2 were detected by use of ELISA. The results showed that pigs that were inoculated with PCV2 before being vaccinated against PRRSV presented with more severe lung lesions. This proved that vaccines could be less efficient if administered at the same time as PCV2 infection.
