Necrotising lymphadenitis associated with porcine circovirus type 2 in pigs.
Veterinary Record, 2005, Volume 156, N°6, 177-178
Necrotizing lymphadenitis was diagnosed in seven pigs from seven different Korean herds. In each case the presence of PCV2 was demonstrated in the affected lymph nodes but PMWS was ruled out following investigations carried out in the herds of origin. In addition, the characteristic histopathological lesions of PMWS, i.e. granulomatous inflammation and intracytoplasmic inclusion bodies, were not observed in none of these case of necrotizing lymphadenitis. No other pathogenic agent, in particular necrotoxigenic Escherichia coli, was isolated. These results suggest that PCV2-associated necrotizing lymphadenitis may be a new clinical manifestation of PCV2 infection in pigs.
