Deciphering the involvement of innate immune factors in the development of the host response to PRRSV vaccination.
Veterinary Immunology and Immunopathology, 2004, Volume 102, Nº3, 199-216
The immune response developed by pigs following vaccination with a modified live virus (MLV) vaccine is fully-detailed. PRRSV is known as a virus inducing a low production of cytokines when compared to other viruses. In particular, the fact that the presence of PRRSV induces low amounts of IFNa and IFNß has negative repercussions on the generation of antiviral IFNγ secreting cells and thus limits the development of an efficient immune response. The ability of a IFNa-encoding plasmid to improve the immune response induced by MLV a vaccine was investigated. The IFNa adjuvant was found to improve cellular immunity to PRRSV but to have only a limited impact on peripheral blood mononuclear cells. Further investigations on this kind of adjuvants are needed.
