Pseudorabies: vaccinate the world.

Following a brief review of the clinical signs induced by pseudorabies in each category of pigs, a clear distinction is made between the classic syndrome and the endemic disease which occur respectively in a primary outbreak and in already vaccinated or exposed animals. In most Asian countries pseudorabies remains endemic. In that case, the main manifestations affect grower-finisher pigs which show respiratory signs with growth retardation and the diagnosis requires laboratory tests. In order to control endemic pseudorabies a vaccination plan of both breeding and production animals is necessary.
