Efficacy of ivermectin premix against parasitic disease in piglets.

Thirty weaned pigs with a liveweight of 10-12 kg were randomly allocated into 3 groups. Group 1 was used as control. Groups 2 and 3 were fed with feed mixed with ivermectin at 1 mg/kg and 2 mg/kg, respectively, for 42 days. Pigs of groups 2 and 3 showed good growth and development, without itching symptoms. Three pigs of group 1 had serious lesions caused by Sarcoptes scabiei and the others also showed symptoms. On the first day, 2, 4, and 3 mites were found in groups 1, 2 and 3 respectively, while later on no live mites were detected in groups 2 or 3. Live mites were detected in all pigs in group 1 on the 33rd day. Early on the examination of faeces showed eggs per gramme of 510, 780 and 660 in groups 1, 2, and 3, respectively. In later examinations, groups 2 and 3 were negative, while 700-1000 eggs were always detected in group 1. (in Chinese)
